Hirwaun RFC 41 v Cwmgwrach RFC 24
5th March 2011
Hirwaun convincingly completed the double over Cwmgwrach with a display of fifteen man rugby scoring five tries to secure a bonus point win. A bright start by the Brocks saw some stout defending by Cwmgwrach with the Cynon Valley side having to be content with three penalties before quick ball by the forwards saw some slick handling by Ceri Haggert , Rhys Stone and Neil Vaughan put Darren Edmunds through to score under the posts which he duly converted. Concerted forward effort saw Hirwaun camped on the Cwmgwrach line before prop Leon Stone powered over for a hard worked try.
The score at the interval saw Hirwaun lead by twenty one points to nine.
In the second half open rugby was the order of the day with five tries being scored. A stray kick from Cwmgwrach was gathered by Rhys Stone on the home 22 to release wing Michael Passmore who ran in from the half way line to score in the corner. Edmunds converted the long range conversion. Cwmgwrach did not take this lying down and ran in two tries of their own. “Pickles” then ran in an almost copycat try to his first, with skipper Christopher Davies adding to the try count ten minutes later. Hirwaun have to wait another four weeks for their next home match against Ogmore Vale on the second of April.
